Dark spatial solitary waves in a cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear medium
2017
We consider the evolution of light beams in nonlinear media exhibiting nonlinearities up to the seventh order wherein the beam propagation is governed by the cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation. An exact analytic solution that describes dark solitary wave propagation is obtained, based on a special ansatz. Unlike the well-known $\text{tanh}$-profile dark soliton in Kerr media, the present one has a functional form given in terms of ``${\text{sech}}^{2/3}$''. The requirements concerning the optical material parameters for the existence of this localized structure are discussed. This propagating solitary wave exists due to a balance among diffraction, cubic, quintic, and s…
Widely Tunable Polarization Modulation Instability in D2O-Filled Microstructured Optical Fiber
2021
Polarization modulation instability (PMI) is a nonlinear effect in which two pump photons with identical polarization propagating in a nonlinear medium give rise to two new photons of different frequency and orthogonal polarization with respect to the pump photons [1] . In this work, we report the experimental demonstration of broad spectral tuning of PMI generated in solid-core microstructured optical fibers (MOF) that were previously infiltrated with heavy water (D 2 O). MOFs were designed and fabricated with the appropriate dispersion characteristics to produce widely spaced PMI spectral bands when they were filled with D 2 O and pumped at 1064 nm. Heavy water was chosen due to suitable …
Spatial beam cleaning in quadratic nonlinear medium
2018
We show experimentally that a laser beam scrambled by propagation in a short segment of multimode fiber may be cleaned by the nonlinear propagation in KTP cristal with type-II second-harmonic generation.
Incoherent modulation instability in instantaneous nonlinear Kerr media
2005
We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally in an optical fiber system that partially temporally incoherent light exhibits modulational instability during its propagation in an instantaneous response nonlinear medium. We show that the modulation frequency and gain are substantially increased with respect to the corresponding values of coherent modulational instability.
Triple resonant four-wave mixing boosts the yield of continuous coherent vacuum ultraviolet generation.
2012
Efficient continuous-wave four-wave mixing by using three different fundamental wavelengths with individual detunings to resonances of the nonlinear medium is shown. Up to 6 μW of vacuum ultraviolet light at 121 nm can be generated, which corresponds to an increase of three orders of magnitude in efficiency. This opens the field of quantum information processing by Rydberg entanglement of trapped ions.

Towards a nonequilibrium thermodynamic description of incoherent nonlinear optics
2007
pa href="http://oe.osa.org/virtual_issue.cfm?vid=36"Focus Serial: Frontiers of Nonlinear Optics/a/pThis concise review is aimed at providing an introduction to the kinetic theory of partially coherent optical waves propagating in nonlinear media. The subject of incoherent nonlinear optics received a renewed interest since the first experimental demonstration of incoherent solitons in slowly responding photorefractive crystals. Several theories have been successfully developed to provide a detailed description of the novel dynamical features inherent to partially coherent nonlinear optical waves. However, such theories leave unanswered the following important question: Which is the long term…
Temporal dynamics of incoherent waves in noninstantaneous response nonlinear Kerr media
2012
International audience; We consider the temporal evolution of an incoherent optical wave that propagates in a noninstantaneous response nonlinear medium, such as single mode optical fibers. In contrast with the expected Raman-like spectral redshift due to a delayed nonlinear response, we show that a highly noninstantaneous response leads to a genuine modulational instability of the incoherent optical wave. We derive a Vlasov-like kinetic equation that provides a detailed description of this process of incoherent modulational instability in the temporal domain.
Laser-driven amplification of soft X-rays by parametric stimulated emission in neutral gases
2010
The high-order harmonics of short laser pulses created in a nonlinear medium are a useful source of extreme-ultraviolet and soft-X-ray radiation. A newly discovered phenomenon that amplifies this emission even further could improve the efficiency of short-wavelength light sources.
Incoherent Dispersive Shocks and Spectral Collapse
2014
We predict the existence of incoherent dispersive shock waves and collapse-like singularities that occur in the spectral evolution of incoherent optical waves propagating in a noninstantaneous nonlinear medium.
